Even Superheroes Need a Team

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

When playing “If you…”, one of the questions that people always come up with is: “If you were a superhero, what super power would you have?”.  People always vary between strength, invisibility, reading people’s mind, being able to fly amongst all the other possible options.  However, even if we did have these extraordinary powers, it wouldn’t mean we were invincible.  If you think of every super hero film, the ‘hero’ always receives help from others at some point.

Take “Fantastic Four“, it is only when all four of the group come together that they defeat their nemesis Dr. Doom.  Or in “The Incredibles” when the family join forces they manage to not only protect themselves, but save the city.  Or even take “Spider-Man” when he faces his nemesis Doc Ock.  On the train he is hurt and it looks as though Doc Ock is about to win, but then all the citizens on the train stand up for him which gives him time to recuperate.

The long and short of these films demonstrate that no matter who you are and what skills you have, working with others increases your chance of survival and victory.  This is something that rings true at work as well.  In order to get the best out of the individuals in your team, they need to be able to come together; and the best way to achieve this, is to take part in team buildingTeam building provides your team with the chance to really understand what each individual member brings to the team.  It gives them the opportunity to realise what they need to do to make sure that they are more successful by working together, than if they attempted everything on their own.

To give your team the opportunity to become a successful team, why not give take a look at the different team building options we have available, or give us a call on 01158 715690.  We look forward to helping your members transform from individuals to a team.

Team Building Event of the Month

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

The team building event of the month for March was a fantastic Wild West.  The spring sun held out for us on the day, which meant that we could take some of the tasks outside and enjoy the weather while it lasted.  All participants were up for the day ahead from the start, but once the costumes came out, the enthusiasm levels rose even further!  Our new cowboys and cowgirls, which included some very manly looking cowgirls, couldn’t wait to get their teeth sunk into the challenge.

Some of the Western participants went straight outside to start a really authentic feeling gold panning session thanks to the warm sun beating down on us.  Most tried their hand at gun slinging.  Others took on, or at least attempted to take on, the rodeo bull.  Even with so many people off basking in the sunshine, all for the sake of their teams of course, there was still a lot going on inside.  Teams were beginning to evaluate where they could improve on from their first quarter and started to get involved into the different tasks on offer inside.

With the overall theme of the day as “Don’t Stop”, we at Sandstone really took this on board and we even stayed around for evening to lead the entertainment.  Using the teams standings from the leaderboard earlier in the day, we started the evening quiz.  With different themed rounds it was clear to see that different teams had their strengths.  One team particularly dominated the film round – prompting hecklers to announce that they needed to get out more!  The final round was a buzzer round and it was all to do with Wild West.  It turned out that some teams paid more attention than others throughout the day and the team that topped the leaderboard overall was in fact a different team that was leading at the end of the Wild West event!

True to their theme, for the entire day the client didn’t stop and because of that this event was great to be part of and a whole lot of fun!
